Development of the Kansas Family Leadership Training

The Kansas Family Leadership Training was developed through a collaborative partnership between the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), Kansas family leaders, and the Iowa Family Leadership Training Institute (FLTI).

This initiative was designed to strengthen family leadership capacity and enhance family engagement across systems that serve children and families in Kansas. The training content was informed by the lived experiences and expertise of Kansas family leaders and professionals who contributed to its design, ensuring that it reflects the unique needs and priorities of Kansas families.

Certain materials used within this training have been adopted or adapted from the Iowa Family Leadership Training Institute, whose partnership and guidance have been instrumental in shaping the Kansas model. The Iowa FLTI team’s collaboration provided a foundation upon which Kansas could build a program that promotes advocacy, leadership, and systems-level impact.

The Kansas Family Leadership Training represents a joint commitment to elevating family voice, fostering leadership, and advancing meaningful partnerships between families and the systems that support them.

KSFLT is still undergoing development and will launch in spring 2027, with applications opening in spring or fall 2026.
